Review- CROSSED VOL. 3: PSYCHOPATH

CROSSED VOL. 3: PSYCHOPATH (Avatar, 2012; Hardcover)

Collects Crossed: Psychopath Nos. 1-7 (cover dates January- December, 2011)

Writer: David Lapham

Artist: Raulo Ceceres

The sick f**ks at Avatar Press bring us another installment in the Crossed series. Not content to let circle jerking and incest be the be all, end all of revolting comic book scenes, this time out we get a serial killer who rapes his victims and dead skin wearing “crossed” to contend with. The shock factor has since worn off, and now I am left with only gore.

While I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I hope that the next one adds in a few twists. If not, I will still be there, but this book will be pigeonholed. That's not necessarily a bad thing per se', but the various creative teams need to decide if Crossed is to remain a cutting edge visceral reading experience or simply a Horror title.

The OCD zone- The cover image is printed on the cover itself, no dustjacket required. It has a high gloss coating that gives it a nice, durable feel. The binding is sewn, but it is glued flush into the spine. The big isn't too thick, so it does lay reasonably flat so that you can read it comfortably in one hand. The paper is a tad thinner than the previous two volumes, but no one in their right mind would notice it. I, however, am not in my right mind.
