The Smashing Pumpkins/ Teargarden By Kaleidyscope Vol. 1- Songs For A Sailor
These 5 songs are amazing psychedelic tinged Pumpkins, following the path laid down in 2008's American Gothic EP. Stitch In Time is the star of this set, with Song For A Son coming in close second. Astral Planes is a psychedelic barnburner, coming off as a mutant hybrid of The Amboy Dukes' Journey To The Center of the Mind and Strawberry Alarm Clock's Incense and Peppermints. Widow Wake My Mind is a decent song, as is the Teargarden Theme (the vinyl only track). One EP box set down, 10 more to go.
Yes, I am a sucker that sprang for the limited edition wooden box after downloading the four songs that comprise the CD for free off of the main site. I am glad that I did, however, as the CD versions sound worlds better than the mp3s, and two of them are longer versions to boot. Couple that with the hand cut stone obelisk and one-sided marble 7" single that contains an additional song not found on the CD, and you have this EP. Knowing how Billy Corgan plays us completists, I have a sneaky suspicion that these vinyl-only tracks will wind up on the aforementioned box set on CD.
The back of the CD sleeve, complete with improperly sequenced song titles.
The box as it appears once the vinyl single was removed. That's a blue felt material. Image shown is the front of the CD sleeve.
The hand cut stone obelisk. Try downloading that.
The presentation once the wooden lid is lifted from the box. That's the marble colored 7" vinyl single. There is only music on one side.
The box set. The image is silk screened on the wood itself.
The box with the paper that was sealed around it.
