Of course I want a refill on my popcorn!

A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)
This remake/ re-imagining of the franchise steers clear of Rob Zombie's Halloween deviations and is more along the lines of a polished hybrid of the first two movies. Aside from making the timeline more contemporary (they were little kids in the mid '90s), this is pretty faithful. The problem with that is that it is so faithful that it becomes predictable and boring. I sat there, propping my head up during some parts because it was too familiar. The Bad News Bear guy who does the new Freddie is as good as Robert Englund in the role. The most enjoyable part of this film is how they delve into Freddie Kruger's origin, making him into one sick f*ck. What was sort of implied in the original is spelled out here, and it makes my skin crawl. Like most Horror films, this is made for adolescents, and while I should have put this genre to bed ages ago I still enjoy sitting down with a bag of popcorn and escaping my day-to-day responsible adult life with these films. 6.5 out of 10
